THE honour of being crowned the top sporting side in Droitwich will be decided on the cricket pitch on Sunday when the town’s promotion-winning football and rugby teams go head-to-head in the Clash of the Champions.

Midland Football League Division Two table-toppers Droitwich Spa take on Midlands Three West (South) winners Droitwich Rugby Club at Droitwich Cricket Club’s St Peter’s Fields ground in a T20 match.

The action gets under way at 3pm and there will be a bar and barbecue for spectators.

All five Droitwich senior cricket fixtures fell foul of the weather although the firsts were possibly thankful for the rain in Worcestershire League Division One.

They were the only team to see any action but in the 10.3 overs possible at Stourport their batting shortcomings were once again exposed as Spa were reduced to 24-4.

Max Young, Ash Fearnall, Jordan Renau and Jez Hanson were all dismissed cheaply before the weather intervened and brought proceedings to a halt.

But the bonus points earned by Pedmore in their defeat to leaders Worcester saw Droitwich drop into the bottom two.

The seconds lost top spot in Division Two due to the abandonment of their home fixture against Oldswinford and Stourbridge Social.

Belbroughton, who Spa host on Saturday, opened up a 19-point lead after they escaped the weather to thrash Cookley.

No play was possible for the thirds and fourths and Droitwich’s debut in the over 45s competition was also delayed due to a wet wicket at Redditch.

On Saturday the firsts face a tough test at Bewdley and the thirds and fourths take on Old Hill.
