BROMSGROVE bounced back from the disappointment of having last week's game against bottom side Walmley abandoned by pulling off a 21 run win at Himley.

That was after Bromsgrove's pre-match preparations were disrupted when skipper Mark Evenson pulled out with sickness which meant Ashley Newfield had to take over the captaincy.

Evenson said: "I was being kept informed every five overs but we managed to put a total of 225 on the board which was to prove more than sufficient."

Despite the early loss of Jayden Levitt, Bromsgrove began to pile on the runs, Newfield knocking off 38 before Ryan Pedley took charge of proceedings with 76 while Worcestershire's Alexie Kervezee with 31 and Jack Taylor on 33 saw Bromsgrove to 225 for seven.

Himley, who were without Worcestershire's in-form Tom Kohler-Cadmore, were then removed for 204 in reply with Newfield and Kervezee both helping themselves to three wickets.

Evenson added: "We'd talked about building partnerships previously and this was a fantastic result against a Himley side who I'm certain will be up there at the end of the season.

"It was a good, solid display from Bromsgrove with Gareth Williams showing his experience at the end.

"Obviously we would have backed ourselves to beat Walmley especially as we've made a positive start to the season.

"Himley are a strong side on paper, but we've shown what we can do."

Evenson expects to return for Saturday's trip to Wellington where Lewis Cordez comes into contention after cracking three successive half centuries in Bromsgrove's Second XI.
