BELEAGUERED Bromsgrove broke a string of records this week - but for all the wrong reasons after being bowled out for just 32 runs by rivals Barnards Green in Birmingham League Division One.

Skipper Mark Evenson's decision to bat first backfired spectacularly as they were quickly reduced to 10 for five and never recovered.

Evenson admitted afterwards: "It wasn't our finest hour!

We played on a used wicket which was clearly only going to get worse.

"I employed the same tactics the previous week, which worked so well for us and I backed us to do the same this time.

"But we lost Jayden Levitt to the first ball of the game and that seemed to set the tone.

"The wicket clearly played its part as there was no consistent bounce, but I can never remember losing a wicket to the first ball of a game before.

"I can never remember a game being over so quickly either. We were bowled out in 16 overs which lasted for just 50 minutes.

"Yet it still took Barnards Green 45 minutes to knock off the required runs.

"It was one of those freak weekends that happens.

"At least it was all over quite quickly and we weren't subjected to a prolonged afternoon chasing leather.

"What we have to do now is show resolve and come back from this.

"But if I was faced with the same conditions, I'd probably do the same and bat first again!"

Bromsgrove bid to bounce back this Saturday when they take on Bridgnorth.
