IMPRESSIVE Avoncroft crushed top of the table Kempsey by 111 runs in Worcester County League Division Three.

Paul Athey plundered 90 not out and found plenty of support from skipper Mark Whitehead who walloped a further 55 as Avoncroft piled on the runs to reach 258 for eight from their allotted 50 overs.

It all proved too much for Kempsey who crashed to their first defeat of the season in reply when reduced to 147 all out in the space of 30 overs and we without key man Sam O'Neill after he suffered a head injury during the first innings.

Dan Elliott took the bowling honours for Avoncroft by claiming four for 52 from his 10 over spell.

Despite this compelling victory, Avoncroft continue to occupy fifth place, still some 70 points adrift of leaders Kempsey who had previously won all eight of their league games.

Avoncroft attempt to close the gap further when they travel to Malvern this Saturday.
