A YOUNG Bromsgrove tennis star’s dreams have come true after she was given the chance to play at Wimbledon.

Josie Ward, a pupil at St John’s Middle School, was able to emulate her heroine’s last week when she stepped out onto the famous grass courts.

The 11-year-old made her Wimbledon debut on Court Five after being invited to be part of an LTA demonstration of talented junior tennis players at the home of tennis with her Midlands team mates.

Josie had 45 minutes of play on court alongside some of the best junior midland players in the country, while she also took a tour of centre court.

As part of her visit, Josie was given access to the Aorangi practice courts, where she was able to witness many of the greats such as Venus Williams, Angelique Kerber, Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal training.

Josie, who hopes one day to be playing for real at Wimbledon, said she was “greatly inspired” with all of the high level tennis being played in the UK over the last couple of months.

Not only was she given an “amazing and unforgettable” Wimbledon experience, but she was also fortunate enough to be picked, because of her Aegon future stars status, to escort Petra Kivitova out for the final of the Aegon Classic.

Josie, who trains regularly at Edgbaston Priory Tennis Club and Bromsgrove Tennis Club, is also being invited to attended a ‘She Rallies’ training workshop with Judy Murray.

She added: “I am now determined to train even harder, to hopefully one day be walking out on centre court for real.”
