EDD Rogers went run crazy for Alvechurch and Hopwood this week when he hammered 170 not out against luckless Himley thirds.

Rogers' remarkable innings helped Alvechurch and Hopwood reach an imposing total of 331 for two from their 50 overs.

Rampant Rogers reeled off no less than 17 fours and nine sixes during his innings as he put Himley's bowling attack to the sword.

Nick Jones also got in on the act as well when he struck a further 84 not out.

But credit to Himley, who have finished bottom of Worcester County League Division Three, as they refused to throw in the towel.

The strugglers stuck their guns and closed on 181 for six despite the efforts of Syed Hussein who took three for 31 from 12 overs while Christian Battelley cliamed two for 35 as Alvechurch and Hopwood finished the season in fifth place.

There was no such luck for Astwood Bank thirds who finished in the relegation places after losing their last-gasp shoot-out with Rushwick.

Opening bat Andy Clayton cracked 88 but lacked support as the Bank reached 183 for seven from their 50 overs.

Rushwick then reeled off a winning 184 for seven in reply with 4.4 overs to spare despite the efforts of Dennis Freeman who took three for 38 from 13 overs while Paul Boycott picked up three for 47 off 12.
