BROMSGROVE School's under-18 hockey players booked their place in the national indoor finals after being crowned midlands champions.

The team started the midlands finals with a display of defensive discipline to draw 0-0 with a Repton side featuring a number of junior internationals.

Bromsgrove followed up with a 1-0 win over King’s High, Warwick, a 3-2 comeback win over Oakham and an efficient 1-0 win over Abbotsholme..

A Malvern College side who had beaten Bromsgrove 3-0 in the county finals awaited in the semi-final. Bromsgrove started strongly and took a two-goal lead, however Malvern managed to convert two penalty corners of their own to level at 2-2 taking Bromsgrove to penalty strokes.

Ellie Childs scored the first, Malvern then missed, Claudia Moberley scored the second and Malvern missed again to put the Bromsgrove through to the national finals which will be held at the school's arena in January.
