FAIRFIELD Villa have boosted their squad by snapping up former Bolehall Swifts midfield man Sean Gardiner.

Spokesman Paul Oakes made the most of things when Saturday's proposed Midland League Division Two game with Moors Academy was called off.

Oakes admitted: "The postponement probably did us a favour as we had Alex Dugmore, Ryan Molesworth, Rueban Wilson, Ollie Booth, Lewis Phillips and Brad Smith all missing.

"To make matters worse, they are all defenders.

"We were looking forward to facing Moors as they are one of the best footballing sides we've played this season.

"But it gave me the chance to travel over to Water Orton and sign Sean, who is close friends with one of our players Matt O' Beirne.

"It will certainly increase the competition for places in midfield".

On the downside, Villa have lost the services of their former Paget Rangers player Matt Seeley who has switched to join rivals Smithswood Firs.

Villa entertain local rivals Barnt Green Spartak this Saturday and then travel to local rivals Redditch Borough on Saturday, December 30.
