FAIRFIELD Villa were forced to call off their Les James Cup semi-final clash with Boldmere Sports and Social after falling victims to a waterlogged pitch.
Villa spokesman Paul Oakes revealed: "We'd had a memo from the Midland League stating that we could self police our own pitch and wouldn't need to bring in a referee to inspect.
"I went down to the ground at 9.30am where the wet weather, coupled with frost coming out of the ground had left the pitch looking like a quagmire in places.
"It was such a shame because our groundsman, Charlie Harris had been working tirelessly on the pitch all week.
"It's unlikely that we'll try and reschedule the game with Boldmere until April now, because the other half of the draw is still a couple of rounds behind."
Villa return to Midland League Division Two action this Saturday when they travel to Bloxwich Town bidding to make it five straight wins.
