FABULOUS Fairfield Villa held their nerve to win the Worcester Junior Cup after defeating rivals Droitwich Spa following a pulsating penalty shoot-out.

Despite being reduced to 10 men in the second half when Alex Dugmore was sent off, Villa still proceeded to pull out all the stops to seal their first success in the competition since 2008.

Villa's preparations didn't go to plan with skipper Scott Smith ruled out through injury.

Fellow defender James Finn was then forced to pull out while going through his pre-match warm-up.

That disruption didn't stop Villa from taking an eighth minute lead when Connor Collins converted a precision pass from DJ Pitt.

Collins struck again just before half time when he flicked home a Dan Wilkes free kick.

Spa looked a different side in the second half and soon pulled a goal back through Matt Hunt.

Dugmore was then dismissed for a second yellow card before Spa levelled in the 88th minute through James Lemon, taking the tie to a penalty shoot-out.

Both sides proved on target with their first five penalties, taking the situation to sudden death where goalkeeper Aaron Collins pulled off a vital save.

Substitute Jordan Allmark then clinched the trophy with a successful sixth kick.

Villa spokesman Paul Oakes said: "The players were fantastic from one to 11.

"Since winning this trophy in 2008, we've lost in four successive finals, so we've stopped the rot against our bogey side to boot."

Villa go in search of more silverware this Saturday when they face either Midland League Division Two champions NFK Burbage or runners-up Smithswood Firs in the Les James Cup final at Sutton Coldfield Town's Coles Lane ground.
