BROMSGROVE Sporting have parted company with striker Sean Brain.

Rousler's boss Brendan Kelly confirmed that Brain had been a target from other clubs and told the Advertiser: "I decided to release him. Sean has been great for us, but with so many players fighting for places, I felt it was best that we parted.

"Sean will have no problem getting another club but with such a large number of players training with us at the moment there comes a point when I have to start whittling the numbers down."

Such is the amount of players currently training with the Rouslers that Kelly was able to field two completely different sides, complete with separate kit, in their opening pre-season friendly fixture with Lichfield City.

Kelly also plans to do exactly the same against Bilston Town this week, he said: "It was a comfortable workout. Everyone got exactly the same amount of time on the pitch.

"Ideally I'd like to reduce the squad of players down to 18 or 19, because it's very difficult to keep 20 plus players happy.

"But at the moment all the players are making it very difficult as everyone is working so hard.

"I don't envisage wholesale changes to the squad. It's up to the new lads who have come in to make an impression."

Despite the larger number of players at training, Kelly still expects to add experienced Danny Jackman to his squad.

The former Cheltenham, Northampton Town and Kidderminster Harrier has been training with the Rouslers this summer since leaving Redditch United.

Kelly added: "Kenny has been training with us for the past three to four weeks. He's full of experience which is something we haven't got a great deal of at the moment."

Kelly is also waiting to find out where he stands with striker Jason Cowley who is currently involved with National League North side AFC Telford, Kelly is hoping to come to some arrangement with Bucks boss Gavin Cowan.

But the situation has been complicated further by the fact Cowley is sitting on a five match ban.

Kelly, who still hopes Cowley will return to Sporting, admitted: "It's a waiting game at the moment to see what happens.

"If nothing materialises then I would like to bring in another striker."

Kelly also revealed that former AFC Bridgnorth player Liam Armstrong will start the new campaign with a two match ban.
