ASTWOOD Bank produced the highest score by a side batting first at Walmley this season - but still finished up losing out by seven wickets.

Solid batting by Tom Pedley, who plundered 63 and Tom Underhill, who hit 61, provided the foundation for a Bank total of 235 for eight after Tom Harris added a belated 38 not out.

It proved to no avail as league leaders Walmley walloped 237 for three in reply to romp home.

Andy Hendry took the game away from the Bank by scoring a boundary-laden 135 not out off 150 balls, his innings included 25 fours.

Bank skipper Steve Adshead admitted: "Walmley cruised it and won easily. The pitch was taking a bit of turn and Walmley included three spinners in their side and even opened with one.

"Our seamers bowled well but got nothing out of the wicket.

"It was good to see Tom Pedley getting back to form, while Tom Underhill has now scored over 400 runs this season.

"By the half way stage, I was very happy with the amount of runs we'd got on our scoreboard.

"We just have to bowl better."

The Bank visit C&R Hawks this Saturday in Birmingham League Division Two

But they will be missing talented 15-year-old left arm spinner Josh Baker who is representing the Midlands at the prestigious Bunbury Festival - the first time the Bank have ever had a player selected for this competition.
