BRAVE Bromsgrove held their nerve to bag a fourth straight Midland One West win but left it late to beat Hereford 14-9 by scoring a try with the last play of the match.

Delighted Bromsgrove head coach, Dan Protherough, said: "We didn't panic but stuck to the basics, took our time and finally got there.

"I was really impressed with Hereford's attitude and work ethic.

"We didn't adapt well to the wet conditions in the first half and as a result we spent much of the first 40 minutes on the defensive and probably tried to play too much rugby in our own third of the pitch.

"In addition to that, we had to contend with two yellow cards in the first half, so to be trailing just 3-0 at half time was quite pleasing because it could have easily been a great deal worse."

Hereford extended their lead early in the second half with a second penalty to go 6-0 ahead.

But from that point, Bromsgrove began to take charge.

The Boars had to wait until the 65th minute to open their account when loosehead prop Jamie Atkin drove over in the corner.

Will Harris then landed a touchline conversion to put Bromsgrove 7-6 ahead.

Hereford regained the lead with a third penalty on 75 minutes to go 9-7 in front, but Bromsgrove continued to look for the win.

A sliced clearance kick by Hereford gave Bromsgrove possession from the resulting lineout and following several phases of play, second row replacement Andreas Antoniou ploughed over for the winning score.

Bromsgrove bid to continue their winning streak this Saturday when they entertain Longton at Finstall Park.
