UNHAPPY Alvechurch boss Ian Long described his side's FA Cup exit to Corby Town as a complete disaster.

The Church crashed 4-1 to lower-ranked Corby and Long said: " I can't put my finger on why we made so many individual errors. You just can't legislate for something like that.

"We were 4-1 down with half an hour still to play and I think some of my players threw the towel in.

"It's not something that I expect from one of my sides. I expect my sides to keep going right to the death but some of the players were guilty of not doing that.

"I won't accept that and if any of them do it again, they'll be on their bike.

"We lost 5-1 at home to Grantham last season, but we learnt from that.

"What upset me more was the fact this was a missed opportunity to progress.

"In truth, Corby weren't that good, it was just that we were that poor."

Long pointed to the fact he had four 18-year-olds in the side and he added: "They looked naive at times. Let's just hope this was a one-off.

"I couldn't take any positives out of the game, because in the FA Cup, there's no getting back, we're out of it now and that's it."

Long also pointed to the fact he was struggling to play ever-presents Ryan Winwood and David Bellis in his midfield as the pair continue to battle injuries.

Long went on: "They've only played together once so far this season. They are combative midfield players who give us something extra in the middle of the park and we've missed them.

"But now we have to see how the players respond to this defeat."

Life doesn't get any easier for Alvechurch as they entertain top of the table Kettering this Saturday at Lye Meadow.

Long admitted: "It will be a big test for us - but we won't be changing the way we play."
