BROMSGROVE first team captain Julian Court is targeting a winning start as his side prepare to host Evesham in their West Midlands Division One opener on Saturday.

Their county rivals will provide a stern test for Bromsgrove, and will be among the favourites to win promotion following their relegation from the Premier League last season.

But Bromsgrove have performed well in pre-season, and earned a respectable 2-2 draw against West Bromwich in their final warm-up game on Saturday.

Court believes his side can be up there with the promotion challengers.

"We have got a big squad and we have got people jumping up for places at the moment," he said.

"Evesham are going to be tough opponents because they came down last season.

"They will be looking to go straight back up so it will be a good test for us.

"We would like to get promoted, although there are a lot of tough sides in this league but it is not beyond the realms of possibility.

Bromsgrove Ladies kicked off their Worcestershire Premier Division campaign in style on Saturday with a 5-3 win over Bournville.

In recent seasons games between the two teams have been close affairs, but it wasn't to be the case this time around.

Bromsgrove's fast free flowing play tore chunks out of the Bournville defence.

However, Bournville took the lead with their only clear shot at goal in the first half.

It stung Bromsgrove into action and Vicky Powell equalised.

Bournville retook the lead early in the second half, but Bromsgrove hit back again with quick goals from Chrissie Ashworth, Erica Scott and Powell.

There was another reply from Bournville but Powell completed her hat trick to tie up the game.

Bromsgrove take on rivals Droitwich on Saturday.
