BRAVE Bromsgrove saw their unbeaten start come to an end with a 5-3 defeat against West Midlands Division One title favourites Kings Heath.
Paul Yates was on target twice while Graham Johns also found the next in a battling performance from which Bromsgrove could have come away with a positive result.
But a defining moment in the game came when Bruce Turner missed a penalty with the score at 4-2.
However, captain Julian Court believes his side could have snatched the points with their second half display.
He admitted Kings Heath are going to be difficult to stop in the promotion chase.
"They are going to be a tough side to beat," he said.
"If we'd have scored the penalty at that stage we would have won the game.
"We got another one back and we were taking the game to them, and there was only one team waiting for the whistle."
Bromsgrove face another difficult game against Old Halesonians on Saturday.
Bromsgrove Ladies and Tenbury cancelled out each others' 100 per cent record as they slugged out a thrilling 1-1 draw.
The fast, furious and highly charged game opened with both sides searching for potential weaknesses, but Bromsgrove had the first chance when a break by Vicky Powell resulted in a save by the Tenbury keeper.
This ignited Tenbury, who began to counter attack strongly.
A fine save by Bromsgrove's keeper and player of the match Ange Burnett kept the scores level.
Both sides embarked on furious end to end play at a frightening pace and this led to Bromsgrove taking the lead.
A battling Ange Gibson won a penalty corner which Tricky Burton rifled into the Tenbury goal.
At the start of the second half Tenbury threw everything into attack and scored an equaliser, punishing Bromsgrove for failing to clear their lines.
Tenbury could have taken control but Kirsty Gormley superbly marshalled Bromsgrove's defence.
Burton later saw a shot crash off the crossbar, but the score remained level, leaving both sides level pegging at the top of the Worcestershire Premiership.
Coach Alan Gormley said: "I'm pleased with the way we applied ourselves against a physically stronger side.
"We had four players under 18 years old who stood up to be counted when it mattered."
l Bromsgrove Ladies seconds came away from Stourport with a deserved 3-1 victory.
Jasmine Leigh gave Bromsgrove the lead, only for Stourport to hit an equaliser before half time.
A tactical change from skipper Anna Evans turned the game in Bromsgrove's favour and it came as no surprise when Sarah Gormley fired home their second goal.
Leigh rounded off a player of the match display scoring her second and Bromsgrove's third.
Captain Anna Evans said: "It is always a tough game against Stourport and so we are very pleased to come away with a win.
"We have a great spirit in the side and everyone fights hard for each other."
The third team made it a great day for Bromsgrove Ladies, recording a 2-0 win over Redditch.
Two goals from Becky Powell were a justifiable reward for an excellent performance.
Droitwich mens' seconds staged a second half fightback to pick up a 1-1 draw against Warwick.
Spa worked hard during the first half but didn't work the ball well enough to create many chances, and they were dealt a blow conceding before the break.
But their second half creativity was rewarded when a well-worked short corner led to Richard Ferly scoring his third goal of the season to equalise.
