We weren’t at the races, says skipper Court

CAPTAIN Julian Court admitted his Bromsgrove side were off the pace in Saturday's 2-2 West Midlands Division One draw with Bloxwich.

Ash Clarke and Paul Yates were on target for Bromsgrove who remain in second place.

But Court was disappointed, insisting it was a case of points dropped rather than gained.

"We were probably half a yard off the pace," he said.

"I was very disappointed to draw the game.

"The second half was a very scrappy affair, which we probably had the better of.

"But we gave away a really soft goal, which was really a freak goal."

Bromsgrove travel to Welsh side Newtown this weekend and Court has warned his players they are in for a tough test.

"Newtown are really difficult to beat at their place," he added.

"They always to well at home, they are very physical and it is very partisan over there."

Bromsgrove ladies got their season back on track with a hard earned 2-0 victory over Harborne.

A talented Harborne side provided a tough test for Bromsgrove.

They pressed in the early stages, but Lisa Smiley, Kirsty Gormley and Justine Postones stood up to the challenge.

The defensive trio are in superb form with only three goals conceded in seven games.

Bromsgrove finally found their attacking rhythm when Chrissie Ashworth hit a fierce cross shot which was converted by Charlie Cole.

Town's midfield then took over with Alice Taylor in great form.

However, they managed to squander 18 penalty corner opportunities.

But the pressure eventually told and Tricky Burton hit home a great first time shot.

Coach Alan Gormley was pleased but believes his side may regret not converting more chances.

"We outplayed them for 80 per cent of the game and continued to create lots of chances," he said.

"However, the league is so close that we may come to regret not converting more. We will continue to work hard and I'm sure we will soon be scoring hatfuls."

Like their first team colleagues, Bromsgrove's second team created lots of chances but failed to convert enough of them, as they went down 3-2 to Ludlow.

Goals from Lucy Taylor and Jasmine Leigh were scant reward.

A fine midfield performance from Sarah Gormley and Lorraine Aspland held things together, ably supported by the rapidly developing Lindsay Foulkes.

But careless defending gave away three poor goals.

Captain Anna Evans felt her side did enough to earn a win.

"We have played worse than this and won this season," she said.

"We must learn to play consistently throughout the game and minimise the errors. Ludlow only had four shots at goal and scored three.

"We must have had 12 good chances and only put two away.

"However, we are creating and the overall display was good.

"We have a solid platform to build upon."

Droitwich seconds put in a gutsy performance but came out second best in a 4-3 defeat to Bridgnorth.

They found themselves 2-0 down early on, but hit back before half time through Pete Best.

A goal scored by youngster Mike Tomkinson brought Droitwich back into the game.

But the home side struck twice more, and despite Best netting again to keep Droitwich's hopes alive, it wasn't enough.
