Boars getting ready

BROMSGROVE Rugby Club kicked off pre-season training this week for their campaign in National Three Midlands.

The club has maintained its exciting young squad who were crowned Midlands Two West champions with a month to go of the regular season.

This has been further underpinned through retaining an experienced coaching staff of existing head coach Ross Baxter, Duncan Roke, Chris Hargreaves, Mark Cornelius, John Blackhall and Alan Danks.

Baxter said: “The senior squad developed a very professional approach to the campaign at the very outset of pre-season last year.

“Having reached these high standards the coaching staff are aiming to continually raise the bar for the forthcoming National League campaign.”

“We have set some early season targets of a top six finish and to win every home match for the year” said Baxter.

“I firmly believe the senor playing squad have the ability and focus to play well at this level and every player is excited by the opportunity to stretch themselves every week.”

The National Three fixtures were released this week and first up for the Boars are Peterborough RFC at Finstall Park on Saturday September 5.

The games then follow on thick and fast with a visit to Sheffield Tigers, who led the league up until Christmas last season, before entertaining fellow promoted champions Ampthill at home on September 19.

The club are also looking forward to derby matches against Hereford on 10 October, Luctonians on 14 November and Malvern on 28 November.

In preparation for these early games pre season matches have been lined up at home to Worcester Wanderers on Saturday August 15, Lymm on Saturday August 22 and Old Halesonians RFC on August 27.

“These games will give us a good opportunity to settle into our home form early and a good test against sides who had promotion seasons last year,” said Baxter.
