Golden joy for delighted Dewi

BROMSGROVE and Redditch AC sprinter Dewi Hammond was in blistering form as he raced to victory at the Midlands Championships in Leicester.
Eighteen-year-old Hammond took gold in the under-20s men’s 100 metres. He had run 11.03 seconds to win his heat, but upped the pace in the final to win in 10.83. In the under-15s girls long jump, Candy Lockett finished ninth with a leap of 4.17 metres and in the under-20s women’s triple-jump Isobel Billau claimed with with a personal best of 11.18m.
Lockett also finished sixth in the shot putt with a throw of 7.52m and third in the discus with 22.43m.
B&RAC athletes travelled to Much Wenlock where Lewis Byng completed a track and field treble.
The youngster won the under-11s 100m in 14.0, the 200m in 30.3 and threw 32.69m for success in the ball throw.
Josh Pearson came third in the under-13s boys 100m in 13.4.
He also came third in the 200m race in 28.6 and Pearson leapt 4.06m for third in the long jump.
In the under-15s boys shot putt, Oliver Kemp threw 9.77m to take another win for B&RAC and Lockett won the girls with 7.84m.
In the senior women’s 100m, Billau finished first in 12.7 which was a new games best performance.
She then went on to win the 200m in 26.9 for another games best performance, who also finished third in the shot putt with a throw of 7.31m.
