Tournament brings season to an end
BROMSGROVE under-11s brought their season to a close with some fine performances but ultimately disappointing results.
Competing in the prestigious Stratford Tournament, both under-11 sides showed glimpses of the excellent form that had previously seen them sweep aside team after team, but it wasn't to be their day this time.
The A team got off to a great start with a convincing 25-0 victory over Daventry, with two tries from team captain Joe Wilson and one apiece from Alex Wilkinson, Reece Warlow and Jonnie Mills.
Next up, Bromsgrove faced Southampton-based Trojans but despite playing some terrific rugby and Bradley Sinclair scoring a scintillating try they were undone by two lapses of concentration and lost 10-5.
In the final game of the group stages, Bromsgrove faced hosts Stratford Leopards and conceded three first half tries.
Bromsgrove put in an improved second-half performance but couldn't get the ball over the line and so went out of the competition.
Bromsgrove's B team were also unable to progress beyond the group stage but still gave a good account of themselves.
They started with a 5-5 draw with Stratford Tigers and for a long time looked like they would hang on for victory following William Cooke's first minute try but they conceded a late score.
Bromsgrove then had a tough game against local rivals Droitwich which could have gone either way.
Danny O'Carroll got on the scoresheet, but Droitwich eventually ran out 20-5 winners in a scoreline which didn't do justice to the closeness of the game.
Finally, Bromsgrove came up against a well-drilled Worcester who showed their class with a 25-0 win on their way winning the tournament outright.
