BEATING THE BAT: Droitwich's Paul Bryan plays and misses in Saturday's game against Worcester CC.
Droitwich (5pts) 147 all out
Worcester (20pts) 148-9
Worcester won by one wicket
IN a thrilling finale, Droitwich were narrowly defeated by local rivals Worcester in Saturday's Crusader Worcestershire League Division One match at St Peters Fields.
Chasing 148 for victory, the Taverners were 80-2 and coasting thanks to a fine 50 from Dan McKay, before losing six wickets in quick succession to the three-pronged Droitwich seam attack of Michael Rogers, Karl Goddard and Andrew Van-Vuuren.
Worcester then had the uphill task of hitting 40 runs with two wickets left, which soon became six runs with one wicket left, but they just crept home despite the best efforts of change bowler Neil Davies.
Earlier in proceedings, Droitwich's batting failed to muster a par total on a helpful track and wet outfield.
Again, a poor start hindered Spa and despite a promising 30 from newcomer Neil Wright and a hard-hit 35 from Andrew Van Vuuren, the lower order was brought to the crease too early.
Skipper Andy Fletcher compiled a useful 30, but Droitwich sold their wickets too cheaply, getting bowled out with three overs left.
