Match drawn
DROITWICH held out for a losing draw away at Astwood Bank in Saturday's Crusader Worcestershire League Division One clash, but showed a significant improvement in their performance.
Astwood Bank batted first on a decent batting track, but it was Spa who made the better start to the match, with Karl Goddard clean bowling Andy Clayton for a duck with the sixth ball of the match.
Goddard, in tandem with Mike Rogers continued to bowl well in restricting the score to 44 after 15 overs.
However, Spa did not have everything their way, with Steve Walsh dislocating his finger going for a difficult catch and having to leave the field of play, leaving Droitwich with 10 men for the remainder of the innings.
With both opening bowlers tiring a change was needed. This brought Gareth Thomas into the fray, who immediately kept the scoring in check with some clever changes in pace.
He took the important wicket of Stefan Jagielski, who made a well grafted 59.

Thomas was ably supported by Andrew Van-Vurren who also picked up a wicket, and Astwood Bank had only mustered 137-4 going into the last 10 overs.
But with wickets in hand 113 runs were added, with Johnno Gordon (50) being particularly harsh on the bowling, scoring 50 runs.
With Droitwich needing to get off to a good start Van Vurren was promoted up the order to try and score some quick runs alongside Jerome Connor.
They managed 37 after six overs, before Van Vurren spooned a catch to cover.
Connor and Phil Hamilton then scored freely, running well and making the most of the short boundry.
When Hamilton fell for 24 and Connor (22) went in the next over, Spa had to rebuild.
Neil Wright (18) made a bright start before he was one of five wickets to fall for 30 runs.
Droitwich needed to bat for 12 overs and score a further 50 runs in order to achieve an additional two points required for a losing draw.
Rogers scored an impervious 33 not out, and supported by Neil Davies (27 not out), helped them gain the additional batting point.
