NEED FOR SPEED: Nathan Crewe and his co-driver tackle the tough course in round two of the National Gravel Rally Championship.
BROMSGROVE'S Nathan Crewe and his Cottrill Transport Rally team-mate John Connor extended their lead in the Two Wheel Drive Challenge and secured a win in the 1400cc Class in the second round of the Pirelli National Gravel Rally Championship.
Crewe and Connor headed to the Scottish Border town of Jedburgh, to take on the tracks of the Scottish Borders and the Kielder Forest, famously named Killer Kielder after its reputation for swallowing rally cars.
The technical stages and deep ditches punished any errors harshly.
The Silkolene Oils backed pair set a good pace despite the conditions.
They were the fastest two wheel drive, behind a 25-strong field of Mitsubishi and Subaru four wheel drive turbo cars - an impressive feat in a 1400cc car, the smallest engine capacity of the event.
A poor tyre choice after the lunchtime service saw the Mintex-supported car lose the lead of the two wheel drive category.

The MGZR crew left it all to do in the final 15-mile stage of the day.
A two-second deficit lay between them and the Super 1600 Fiat Punto, heading the class. With fresh tyres and a final push, the pair cleared the stage nine seconds ahead.
The next championship round is the Manx Rally in the Isle of Man on May 10.
