Two out of two for slick Strutt

IMPRESSIVE: Alex Strutt displayed his boxing skills on his way to victory over Ben Hudson.

ALEX Strutt produced a mature display to earn a unanimous points victory over Ben Hudson in his second professional fight.

The Ombersley boxer won every round at the Tower Ballroom in Edgbaston on Sunday, against the veteran Cambridge fighter - a replacement for Strutt's scheduled opponent Sherman Alleyne.

Strutt, known as the Sledgehammer, was on top of Hudson from the first bell, patiently working the jab before unleashing a series of stinging body shots with his left hand.

Roared on by his army of fans, the former Droitwich ABC fighter forced his opponent onto the ropes several times, but Hudson used his experience to recover.

Another crunching left hand from Strutt in round three of the four-round contest opened up a gash on the side of Hudson's head, and the 25-year-old continued to tag his opponent until the final bell, to secure a 40-36 points decision.

Strutt admitted he was happy to get some rounds under his belt.

He said: "I did say I was going to box this time and show a bit of my boxing ability.

"I thought that was a really important thing, because obviously when you are blowing out people in two rounds they don't know what you have got in the armoury.

"So I thought I would mix up the punches a little bit, and show my movement and how I throw my punches, working the body as well as the head.

"The biggest problem was that I know he is experienced and these guys can keep going forever.

"It was good to get some rounds in, some quality rounds of good boxing, and it was a good match for me."

Also on the Pugilist Promotions bill, there were wins for Midlands prospects Eddie McIntosh, Danny Coyle, Nasser Al Harbi and Joe Rea.
