Brown leads series after victory
Two become one: Warren King and Michelle Brown in tandem.
Two become one: Warren King and Michelle Brown in tandem.

BROMSGROVE'S Michelle Brown took on some of the country's best riders to win the second round of the Rudy Project time trial series on the border of Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire.

Brown took on rain and hail in Willoughby on the Wold, but she coped well with the conditions and the undulating course to finish in 37 minutes and 41 seconds, one minute ahead of second-placed Jenny Faye.

Victory means that the Wyre Forest CRC rider leads the national series.

Warren King rode strongly in the veteran's category race over the same course and was rewarded with seventh overall in a time of 37-18, behind overall winner Colin Griffiths of Welland Valley CC with 35-14.

King and Brown made a superb start to the season when they took victory in their first event, when they paired up to ride tandem in the Wrekinsport Hilly 18 mile time trial.

Wyre Forest riders put in a strong performance in the Echelon-VTTA 10 mile time trial at Princethorpe on Saturday.

Andy Convery was quickest for the club, crossing the line with a time of 23-01 for 13th place overall, followed by Gary Bartram with 23-56 and 23rd overall, Sue Middup-Jones (28-44, 59th) and veteran rider Mick Gray with 29-04 in 66th place.

Overall winner was James Parkins of Zenith CC with 20-41.

Paul Prince and Jack Kirk put in some good rides in the Echelon two day stage race at the weekend. The first day consisted of a 55m road stage in the morning at Hanley Swann, with Prince and Kirk finishing comfortably in the bunch.

The afternoon of day one was a 2.5m time trial, with Prince finishing in 5-41 for 22nd place and Kirk finished in 5-55 and 46th overall.

On day two, stage three was run in truly awful conditions, which Prince did not compete in, but Kirk was determined to finish and put in a strong ride over the 80m course and crossed the line safely in the bunch to finish in 30th place in the general classification overall.
