Duo net top awards

TOP MAN: Sam Alsop picked up two awards.

SAM Alsop and Karl Lewis were the big winners at the Bromsgrove Rovers end of season awards bash.

Alsop received the acclaim of his own team-mates by scooping the Players' Player of the Season gong, while he was also presented with the Advertiser/Messenger Player of the Season award by sports editor Dan Harrison.

Goalkeeper Lewis, who produced a string of man of the match performances in the second half of the season, won the Fans Player of the Season trophy.

He received 36 per cent of the votes, ahead of Alsop in second with 29 per cent, while Hungarian forward Jozsef Jakab was third in 15 per cent.

Alsop revealed his pride at being aknowledged by his team-mates.

He said: "Getting an award from your fellow players and being recognised for what you do for the team means a lot.

"Overall it has been a bad season, obviously coming up from last year and this year going straight back down.

"It is recognition for what I have done this season, but overall it is disappointing going down so it is not a successful season."

Lewis said: "I was chuffed with it, but I wasn't expecting it to be honest.

"The fans pay their money week in, week out, and to get the award off them is very pleasing.

"I had a little period over Christmas where I got injured and I struggled to get back in the team.

"But since New Year I have been pleased with the way I have played.

"I just want to thank all of the fans that voted for me, I was really pleased to get it (the award)."

Long-serving winger Kevin Banner's strike in the 2-2 draw with Yate Town in January was voted Goal of the Season, while Ben Albutt, who made the step up from Rovers' NEW College Academy side to the first team squad, was named Young Player of the Season.

Clubman of the Year went to Mark Lammas for his hard work off the field.
