Brock howlers cost Rovers

Halesowen 2
Rovers 1

TWO errors from goalkeeper Stuart Brock gifted the Yeltz all three points last night.

Rovers dominated the first half of the derby clash, but a string of missed chances came back to haunt Rod Brown's men.

Jermaine Clarke gave the Greens a perfect start, meeting Jamie Petty's cross with a diving header to open the scoring on five minutes.

But Clarke, Petty, Sam Alsop and Gary Hay all had chances to double the Greens' advantage.

Petty forced a superb one handed save from Mark Osborn, unleashing a right footed drive from 30 yards, but it was brilliantly tipped around the post.

Osborn made another acrobatic stop from Hay's half volley.

Alsop hit an effort straight at the Halesowen custodian after cleverly jinking past two defenders, while Clarke also had a tame shot saved when he was released by Alsop.

The Yeltz grabbed a scrappy equaliser a minute before the break.

Brock misjudged his attempt to punch Darren Caskey's corner clear, and Dennis Pearce eventually bundled the ball over the line after a scramble in the six-yard area.

And Brock produced a howler to hand Halesowen's Eldon Maquemba a 50th minute winner.

Maquemba chased a long kick from Osborn which should have been routine for Brock.

But the forward couldn't believe his luck when Brock unleashed an air shot and the ball rolled under his foot, to leave the simplest of tap-ins.

Halesowen turned the screw in the latter stages of the game with Maquemba going close again, firing at Brock's feet, while David Perpetuini's cross-shot flew past the post.

Rovers' only clear cut second half effort came from Chris Cotterill, who's speculative shot forced Osborn to beat away for a corner.
