A SIDEMOOR race ace was celebrating after clinching the MSA 750 Motor Club MR2 Championship title.

Paul Hinson, 37, pulled out all the stops in the final round at Mallory Park to ensure he won the tournament for the first time in only his third season racing.

The championships, which sees drivers test their mettle in Toyotas, takes place over the summer at tracks like Silverstone, Brands Hatch and Cadwell Park.

Bromsgrove speed demon Hinson needed to pull out all the stops in the final two races at Mallory as he was trailing in the standings.

However, victory in the first and second race in the final meetingg of the season sealed his successful title challenge.

He said: “I knew I had to make a strong start at Mallory but winning the first race helped.

“I was happy enough to be second in the next one, even though the driver ahead of me was breaking a lot in an attempt to put me off.

“My father used to race motorbikes and cars but he had to stop it when I was born because he couldn’t afford to carry on, so when I had enough money I decided to take it up.”

Hinson had previously came fourth in his first season in the MR2 Championship and was runner-up last year. He is now looking at racing in a different competition and is contemplating a host of different series for 2013.
