Now it’s crunch time – Baxter
11:00am Friday 9th November 2012 in Local
HEAD coach Ross Baxter admits Bromsgrove face a “massive” run of games as they try to arrest their seven-match losing streak in the National Two North.
The Boars’ terrible results has seen them slip into the bottom three.
But after a slew of matches against sides vying at the top, the Finstall Park outfit now tackle teams at the opposite end, starting with fifth from bottom Westoe at home on Saturday (2.15pm start).
That is followed by clashes against Birmingham and Solihull, Dudley Kingswinford, Huddersfield, Stockport, before completing their 2012 league fixtures with Luctoninans.
“We’ve got five games up until Christmas which are massive,” commented Baxter.
“We face teams in the bottom half of the table and if we can win them things will be looking a lot better.
“If we can keep the level of performance we have had against the best teams in the league and cut out the mistakes then we will be okay.”
Baxter was again left frustrated as Bromsgrove had battled back from behind at Preston Grasshoppers, only to see his side surrender the lead in the dying moments.
“This result was a microcosm of our season,” lamented the head coach.
“We started off poorly but we then played really well to take the lead.
“All we had to do is drive up the pitch in the final 30 seconds and then kick the ball into touch but we gave it away and Grasshoppers went through eight phases to score.
“It was a heartbreaking result because the players put in so much effort to win the game but it was tiny individual errors which cost us again.”
The Boars have a full strength squad for the visit of Westoe but the coach admitted his side has been affected by injuries and absences in recent weeks.
He added: “We’ve not had a lot of continuity in recents weeks.
“We were missing quite a few on Saturday but we’ve got the quality in depth and are at full strength for Saturday.”
