BASKETBALL: Bromsgrove Bears men put in a brave display as they gave higher ranked Ipswich a scare before losing 64-49 in the National League Shield.
Against a side three divisions higher, the Bears went into the final quarter in contention but their opponents edged ahead in the fourth.
The women’s team were edged out 54-53 by Leicester, despite holding a 10-point advantage at one stage.
In comparison, the women dominate the West Midlands League and saw off West Midlands Police by 60 points at home.
The under-15s boys were edged out by Coventry, while the under-16s girls lost to Nottingham in the Sureshot Cup.
The under-16s girls play Bucks Hornets at South Bromsgrove High School on Saturday (1pm kick-off).
In the National League, the women entertain Bristol Storm at the Bromsgrove School Arena on Saturday (5.30pm tip-off), while the men take on the College of West Anglia at 7.30pm.
