Hall spot on for Fairfield

STUART Hall struck from the penalty spot as Fairfield Villa booked their place in the semi-final of the Worcestershire Junior Cup.

The Midland Combination Division One outfit will now play Division Two outfit Malvern Rangers on Saturday, February 23 after Saturday’s 1-0 win at Badsey Rangers.

A match played on a soggy pitch was settled by Hall’s penalty, who was also brought down for the spot-kick.

However, the Villa players had to make the trip back from Evesham covered in mud after an electrical fault in the showers at half-time.

Joint-boss Paul Oakes said: “I was surprised the game went ahead because of the rain but they managed to get it on.

“It was a scrappy win and we were missing a few players. The competition has opened up nicely for us.

“In the other semi-final Feckenham face Bromsgrove Sporting’s reserves so on paper we’ve got an easier route to the final.”

With the cup game going ahead, which had taken priority over the league, Villa can now resume their title chase this weekend at home to bottom side Northfield Town (3pm ko).

They are currently third in the table after Hampton moved to second by defeating leaders Cadbury Athletic but trio are separated by just three points.

Meanwhile, Fairfield have been named team of the month for the third time in succession.

They have won the last 11 matches in all competitions and have now received the accolade for November, December and January.

Oakes said: “We’ve been named team of the month quite a few times over the years but three in a row must be a club record.

“We’ve go to Northfield and we want to make sure we go there and pick up all three points.”
