Coach lands a spot on national training course

BROMSGROVE Bears coach Simon Fisher is just one of ten from across the country who have been selected for a national training course.

Fisher and his nine counterparts will experience an intense course which includes a trip to the centre of European basketball Belgrade in Serbia. He was selected because of his good work with the Bears’ men’s and national under-17s horizens teams.

Fisher was also the first England age group coach to gain medals and promotion at a European tournament.

The project will see the coaches observe and analyse Euro League under-18s games, gaining valuable insight into the techniques being implemented by the top teams within Europe.

The challenge for all the coaches will be to utlise the knowledge within the national team programmes and also within their current coaching environment.

Fisher coaches the men’s team, who have won four and lost seven in their first season in the National League Divison Four.

He said: “The teams we have played against have recognised our progression over the year, we have strengthened the team and became more efficient in our play.

“Our focus was always to make the promotion play-offs in our second season, all the games and situations this year will support that outcome.

“I am immensely proud of the team, they have committed to the programme and this opportunity to learn from the best programmes in Europe will help me develop the team to the levels required for promotion.

“It is also tremendous recognition for this club to have the only coach selected for the programme from the West Midlands.”
