Baxter wants repeat display ahead of Hull clash

HEAD coach Ross Baxter has called on his Bromsgrove players to pull off a repeat of their heroic win over leaders Stourbridge when they go to the National North Two’s in-form side Hull Ionians this weekend.
The Boars face a serious test of their recent good form at Brantingham Park against an Ionians team who are pushing for the title after eight straight wins.
But Bromsgrove have already proved this season they can beat the best on their own ground after their 21-12 victory over Stourbridge in January, inflicting their first defeat of the campaign.
Baxter believes it will take another disciplined display to inflict Hull’s first home loss of the campaign.
He said: “Hull play a very similar game to Stourbridge, they are very strong at set-pieces and kick a lot from their own half. We will need to play like we did against Stourbridge, when we stood up well in set-pieces. What is important is that we make sure we are accurate when it comes to our first one or two passes or when we make a run. If the game is tight late on then there’s a chance we could do something.” The Boars enjoyed a free weekend from league action and are itching to build on back-to-back wins over Stourbridge Lions and Luctonians.
They will be without the services of the influential Phil Horton, who has work committments, but will be boosted by the return of Alex Woodward in the second row.
Worcester Warriors academy player Jack Wardle is also back to bolster the Boars, who have been hit by a host of long-term injuries.
Chris McGregor begins the long rong back to recovery after breaking his leg in three places in last week’s win over Stourbridge.
Bar Bartlett, Wayne Cooper, Nick Wright and Tom Warren are among the long-term injury list at Finstall Park.
Baxter added: “We’ve had horrendous luck with injuries but we’ve also seen a group of young players step up and settle into the side.”
