Albrighton under Rowley's spell
1:12pm Monday 18th March 2013 in Local
CHADDESLEY Corbett was put under the spell of Bridgnorth trainer Phillip Rowley as he bagged three winners at the Albrighton Point-to-Point on Saturday.
Rowley had came into the weekend on a crest of a wave after six wins in Bangor seven days before and his horses continued their winning streak.
He enjoyed a slice of luck in the Open Maiden race as Presenting William took advantage of fall by Shakes Rock and Honest’s fading to take the win.
Jockey Jane Williams, from Enville, then led 14-year-old gelding Billyvoddan to victory in the Ladies Open.
Bridget Andrews had set a slow early pace on Citizens Arrest and they were still leading when making a very bad mistake at the 10th, but were back in contention a fence or so later.
Billyvoddan’s challenge was delivered with impeccable timing approaching the second from home, before he stormed up the run in to win by 12-lengths.
Finally, Mark Wall then rode Thatcher’s Gold to success in the sponsored Maiden race, with a strong finish seeing off Rainbow Trout.
Meanwhile, there was not much between Flying Gnu and Joe the Trucker on racecard ratings in the Connollys Red Mills Intermediate race, but it proved a different case on the racecourse.
Joe the Trucker jumped impeccably throughout and finished 15-lengths ahead of his nearest rival to seal a win for Abberley trainer Zoe Hammond.
Annabel Dalton guided Glidewell to a narrow victory in the Novice Riders, seeing off Maletton by a neck.
