Boars roar to title with fine win

BROMSGROVE secured the West Midlands Division Two title in style as they beat Evesham 6-1.

With a game to spare, the Town side have an unassailable four-point lead over second-placed Ludlow.

A 15-match winning streak ensured a swift return to Division One.

The Boars were in excellent form as Bevan Edwards opened the scoring, before goals for Andrew Langlands, Tom Jennings (2), Jon Hyde and Karl Troth completed the rout.

“We’ve had a solid season and we want to continue improving, starting with the final match on Saturday,” captain Rammy Arafa said.

“We would like to get as many people down to see the game and celebrate the title with us.

“We’ve been playing entertaining hockey and would like to encourage people to come and see some good local sport.”

Bromsgrove end the season at home to Oswestry (noon start).

Meanwhile, Droitwich were beaten 9-0 by West Midlands Division One leaders Market Drayton.

The seconds’ hopes of avoiding relegation were dented after a 3-3 draw with Bromsgrove.

Nick Bates (2) and Mitch Oaks had fired Spa 3-1 up but Bromsgrove scored twice to ensure it was honours even.
