A KARATE master from Bromsgrove was presented with his sixth dan black belt during a special course held by the England Karate Association.

Sensai Stuart Hughes, who runs Forge Shotokan in Stoke Prior, was given the accolade for his outstanding contribution to the martial art.

Hughes teaches the more traditional Okinawan style of karate, which focuses more on self defence.

The presentation came at the end of a special course as guest instructors from across the country descended on Kidderminster.

Sensei Jason Lester, fourth dan and president of the EKA performed a series of demonstrations and there were also displays by Telford’s Peter Jones, Gaz Richards from Milton Keynes as well as Hughes.
