Himley cling on to deny Avoncroft

AVONCROFT were frustrated in their attempts to close the gap on second-placed Harborne as they were held to a winning draw by Himley in Worcestershire League Division Two.
Croft declared on 295-6 with Craig Hughes scoring 107.
David James (63) and Sam Hughes (59) also got among the runs for the hosts.
But Himley got off to a good start, with openers Matthew Bowen and Chad Brandrick taking the game to Avoncroft’s bowlers, before the latter was bowled by Dan Elliott.
Charlies Mackelworth (22) also added runs as as Himley reached 179-4 before Croft took a late flurry of wickets and reduced Himley to 194-7.
Paul Athey took three wickets.
Croft now trail Harborne by 23 points but they can close the gap when they take on the Birmingham side away on Saturday (1.30pm start).
- Chaddesley Corbett slipped to third in Division Four after losing by eight runs to Barnards Green.
Tanzeel Ul Rahman took 5-64 as Green made 202-7, thanks to Will Dovey’s 86 off 59 balls.
Corbett struggled in reply but Muhammad Sadiq (49) and Matthew Yardley (48 not out) took them within a hair’s breadth of victory only for them to be bowled out for 194.
Chaddesley host West Malvern on Saturday (1.30pm).
n In Division Six, second-placed Cutnall Green’s title hopes suffered a setback as they lost to leaders Canon Frome by 227 runs to leave them trailing by 45 points.
Frome made 362-3, with James Fortnam (161) and Andy Rogers (89no) in good form.
Cutnall’s reply was restricted to 135-7, with John Latham scoring 39 runs.
Green take on Redditch at home on Saturday (1.30pm).
