Hepke vaults into the record books

MEL Hepke helped soothed the pain of Bromsgrove and Redditch AC’s relegation from the Midlands Track and Field League Division Two by setting a new club record during the fourth round in Gloucester.
She extended her pole vault record in the over-40s women’s category from 1.9 metres to 2m to finish third.
Further top three spots were achieved by Sam Cater (45.17m, 3rd) in the men’s javelin and the hammer (35.57m, 2nd), while team mate Richard O’Connor threw 33.34m for second i the B competition.
Jo Frost leapt 5.11m to finish third in the long jump with Issy Billau winning the triple jump A with a leap of 10.36m and Julie Wakelam (7.84m) second in the B event.
Simeon Clarence was second in the men’s long jump with 6.23m.
Charlotte Cole ran the 3,000m in 11 minutes to take third place and there was another third for BRAC with Billau running the 400m in 59.6 seconds with Romy Naven taking second in the B race in 62.8.
Third places were achieved by both the club’s 800m women — Sally Hogan completed the race in 2.27.0 in the A competition and Katie Plummer 2.35.6 in the B.
In the men’s 400m hurdles, Mark Appleton finished third in 60.8 in the A competition and Andrew Freeman another third in the B race in 70.0.
There were more third places for Mark Appleton in the 3,000m steeplechase A (11.18.6) and Kevin Lanckham in the B (12.11.0).
David Mould was second for the club in the 400m race with 50.5 and third in the 200m (23.2). The 400m B race saw Clarence win in a time of 50.7 and Thomas Russell (23.2) took first in the 200m B.
