HEAD coach Ross Baxter believes attitude will be the key factor when Bromsgrove go to fellow strugglers Hull for their vital National North Two relegation clash on Saturday.

Second from bottom Boars are only one place and three points their next league rivals and will be aiming to build on encouraging performances against Luctonians and Darlington Mowden Park in recent weeks.

Baxter said: “While we lost, it was a very encouraging performance against Darlington.

“They changed their formation to combat our very strong pack and the weather, but I thought we gave them a fright.

“We scored two tries and could have scored more.

“In the end, Darlington’s extra quality told, but we must build on this display.

“Our attitude against the bigger teams has been good and we must repeat this against the teams around us.

“The battle at the bottom is getting a bit fruity and it looks as though four teams are battling to avoid three relegation spots.”

Bromsgrove have no new injuries, although Phil Horton looks set for a scan on his knee at the end of the month.

There was much to cheer against Darlington despite losing 29-19 at home.

The hosts were undone by the pace and power of the visitors whose wing Chris McTurk ended up scoring a hat trick of tries.

Town started promisingly and were rewarded with an early penalty by Richard Mahoney, but it didn’t take long for the visitors to respond when McTurk followed up his own chip to score.

Gavin Painter added the conversion.

Darlington kept up the pressure and Guy van der Vries touched down from a driving maul.

McTurk bagged his second five minutes before half-time when he appeared on his opposite wing to score in the corner.

Bromsgrove’s determination paid off when Tom Hardwick was driven over with Mahoney adding the extras.

Max Cannon scored for Darlington but Sol Dacres scored for the Boars, before McTurk had the last laugh when he completed his treble.

Baxter added: “The performance was very good and there’s no doubt we need to take encouragement from it and move on.”
