HOCKEY: Bromsgrove found Camberley and Farnborough too strong in the semi-finals of the National Vase on Sunday, as they went down 6-2.

The day had not started well with the closure of the M40 delaying the arrival and loss of kit meant Tom Green had to play with a small stick.

The hosts opened the scoring with a contentious penalty after keeper Jed Park had up ended an attacking player.

Another contentious decision allowed a penalty corner which Camberley converted as Bromsgrove were 2 -0 down within ten minutes.

The home team had a man sent to the sin bin for a kick at defender Anton Sieg.

Camberley added a third this time with a neat finish from another penalty corner.

Siege pulled one back, before Veit Wasserfuhr, Andy Langlands and Mark Robinson all went close as Bromsgrove dominated the latter stages of the first half.

Camberley made it 4-1 early in the second half but Wasserfuhr scored a marvelous individual goal to give hope.

Jake Bubbles then had a golden chance to pull another goal back but somehow diverted Andy Langlands’ pass wide with the goal at his mercy.

The hosts bagged two more late on while Sieg and Karl Sharkey were sin binned.

Captain Laurence Shah said: “I am extremely proud of the boys and reaching the last four in the country is something we should be very proud of.”

In the West Midlands Divison One, Bromsgrove were beaten 8-2.

Langlands, Russell, Sieg and Wasserfuhr were all rested, while Shah and Tom Jennings scored.
