WHILE the wet weather washed out all four of Droitwich’s Saturday fixtures, it also put a dampener on Spa’s efforts in the Worcestershire Sunday League.
Chasing a revised target of 134 in 26 overs to beat Worcester, the Firsts were cantering to victory after Kris Corbett blazed 68 to take them to 91-3 in the 11th over.
However, a deluge forced a premature abandonment and a no result ensued.
Rainfall also affected the seconds’ reply at Worcester Nomads, where a chase of 260 was reduced by six overs.
James Thomas and Keiran Wilkins got the innings off to a rapid start and ensured Spa were well on course, however, their departures in quick succession and a rain interruption saw Droitwich eventually fall 50 runs short of their 220 target.
Scott Fenn top-scored with 31, although the match highlight was 14-year-old Leon Payne’s haul of 6-41 with Wilkins also claiming two scalps in a tidy spell.
Meanwhile in Worcestershire Division Three, Chaddesley Corbett and Avoncroft saw their matches abandoned without a ball bowled in anger last Saturday.
Promotion chasing Corbett entertain Bredon on Saturday, while mid-table Avoncroft travel to pacesetters Harborne (both 1pm start).
