CAPTAIN Mark Evenson says Bromsgrove will be trying to stiffen their middle order batting over the winter after wrapping up an encouraging season in the Birmingham and District League Division One with a 34 run win over Wellington.

The Boars finished the season in fourth place, an impressive feat considering they had seven of their 22 games abandoned because of wet weather.

They finished 76 points behind leaders Ombersley, but only nine points separated the teams in second, third and fourth places.

Evenson said: "We wanted to finish in the top four, so it is mission accomplished.

"It was a good effort considering we had the most games in the league called off and I think over all we have improved.

"We could be more consistent in the batting, we are the sort of side that either scored 340 runs or is bowled out for 140.

"If we could add some experience to stiffen up the middle order in the winter that would be great.

"But we're not going to lose anyone and Graeme Whiles has done well.

"We've also got a number of good players in the seconds who look capable of breaking through."

After losing the toss, Bromsgrove were asked to bat first.

After losing Ashley Newdick and Jayden Levit cheaply, the Boars rallied from 19-2 to 135-3 when Alexei Kervezee (71) was dismissed.

Joe Dodd ( 71) continued to score runs bur Bromsgrove were dismissed for 169.

But Bromsgrove's bowlers shared the wickets as Wellington were removed to 135 in 44 overs.

Whiles (3-28), was in good form and there were two wickets each for Evenson, Ganderton and Newdick.
