FAIRFIELD Villa continued their topsy turvy season by inflicting Sutton United’s first defeat in the Midlands Football League Division Two.

A brace for Lewis Cosgrove and a Connor Collins penalty saw the Recreation Ground outfit roar back from a goal behind and win 3-1.

Victory followed on from a 11-0 thrashing of Coton Green last week.

Previously, Fairfield had lost Coton Green, Aston and Barnt Green Spartak but joint manager Paul Oakes explained their inconsistency was down to player availability.

He said: “At our level it all depends on who is available. In our poor little run we didn’t play the same back four once and also missed Ben Smith.

“Ben’s back playing alongside Lewis and it gives us a lot solidity.

“We don’t pay players so you cannot blame them if they have to work on a weekend or go on holiday or family commitments.

“But we played well against Sutton, who for me are one of the best footballing sides in the league.

“We fell behind but Lewis scored two headers from Ryan Molesworth balls, while Connor was brought down and scored a penalty.”

Villa have signed Toby Jug midfielder Dave Price, who debuted at the weekend. They entertain Sutton again on Saturday at home in the President’s Cup (3pm ko).
