FAIRFIELD Villa's good run came to an end when they were edged out 2-1 by Sutton United in the President's Cup.
Villa had taken the lead in the fourth minute through Ellis Blakemore.
Blakemore nearly added a second but Sutton began to turn the tide and keeper Billy Spink, son of Aston Villa great Nigel, produced two fine saves.
Goals for Steven Radzinski and Chad Duggan left Villa trailing and their attempts to get back into the game were hampered to a 12 minute injury delay after a Sutton man went to ground.
The opposition player was taken to hospital by ambulance and the game re-started.
Joint manager Paul Oakes said: "We started the game very well and for the first 15 minutes we looked in control.
"We should have added a second and Sutton got back into the game.
"The delay knocked the momentum of us and we could not find the intensity we had before.
"But there wasn't much in it, there is a width of a paper between the sides and Sutton are a lovely club."
Villa will be without injured quartet Steve Frost, Shane Calder, Andy Cook and Jak Allbutt, while Scott Wilkes is still in Australia, for Saturday's clash at Leciester Road in the Midlands Football League Division Two.
