DROITWICH Spa have brought in the joint managerial team of Wayne Oliver and Mark Owen to take the helm at the club.

Oliver joins the club with an impressive looking CV at the higher level of the Midlands Football League.

He has previously been in charge of Bromyard and has also been at Archdales 73 as well as roles under Bernard McNally at Telford and Hednesford.

Oliver will be partnered by former Worcester City forward Mark Owen, who scored over 100 goals for the Blues.

The pair have been involved with Sunday side Droitwich Spa Veterans but have been persuaded to take the reins at the Midland Combination Division Two club.

Owen, who has been scoring goals for the Veterans, will concentrate on his managerial duties.

Oliver said: "It all started when my son Matt took up a roll at Droitwich Spa High School, the club found out and he started playing for them.

"Almost inevitably the asked Matt about me. I've known Mark for years and he jumped at the chance to be joint manager about me.

"I've been around the block a few times and Mark and I will see what we can do.

"There's no magic wand and Mark and I will give all the players here a chance. We've got a big contacts book but we will see."

Previous manager Colin Rudge is set to stay on the club as a player, while Andy Pheasant will be a player/manager for the reserves.

The new managerial team were not in charge at the weekend but watched as they defeated Malvern Town under-21 in the Worcestershire Junior Cup 3-0, with goals for James Ward (2) and Chris Higginson.

Spa, who are bottom of Midlands Football League Division Two, go to Coton Green on Saturday (3pm ko).

Meanwhile, the veterans defeated Tamworth side Whittington FC 6-1, with Owen hitting double hat-trick, in the Central Warwickshire League Division Two Cup.
