DROITWICH Spa produced their worst performance for some time when they went down 53-22 to a tough experienced Spartans RFC in Midlands Division Two West (South).
With a host of injuries and some work commitments, the Glynn Mitchell Memorial side sent out a team in a mismatched encounter and were beaten comprehensively.
Error-strewn defending coupled with poor communication and decision making meant Spa could not build any momentum in the game.
However some good line breaks by Dan Wilkinson playing in his preferred centre position was one of the few highlights.
Spa need to go back to the drawing board and get back to basics.
Spa scored four tries against Spartans Severn, tries coming from Dave Oliver, Steven Poke, Dan Wilkinson and a brilliant solo effort from Ben Rean.
Stand-in skipper Russ Brown said: “We need to pick up and go into the next league game with confidence and desire to win, otherwise Spa may well get dragged into a relegation battle.”
Spa travel to Kidderminster Carolians RFC on Saturday for a North Midland Shield game.
Droitwich are eighth in the table after three games with one win and two defeats.
