BROMSGROVE Sporting must maintain the high standards they set in Saturday’s stunning victory over Littleton if they are to challenge at the top, manager Paul Smith believes.

The Rouslers produced their best display of the season, as goals from Chris Conway, Aaron Daniels and Sam Wills knocked their opponents off the top of the table.

It was the side’s seventh straight win in all competitions, and leaves Sporting well-placed for an assault on the title.

Sporting, who entertained Bolehall Swifts last night, now face new leaders Uttoxeter away on Saturday, in another test of their championship credentials.

Smith said: “That performance was our most complete display of the season.

“We’d been winning games, but I always felt there was more to come.

“We were in control from the start, created lots of chances, defended well as a unit and beat a side who had been unbeaten in 11 games.

“Now we have to make sure we produce performances like this one for the rest of the season.

“If we can do that, then we can go on a very good run.”

Sporting handed a debut to Lewis Clarke, who returned to the club after a spell at Causeway United.

They have also signed 20-year-old midfielder Charles Wilson from Redditch Borough.

“It was good to have Lewis back and he debuted against Littleton, and we’ve also brought in Charles,” said Smith.

“He was involved with Redditch United’s first team squad and I spoke to Liam McDonald about him.”

Sporting will complete a trio of fixtures, which the manager has described as ‘season defining’ this week. They travel to new leaders Uttoxeter on Saturday, with Jack Wilson set to miss out due to work commitments.

Sporting have lost 3-2 to Uttoxeter already this season, with Craig Jones and Reece Hewitt on target.

Smith added: “We will have played three top four teams in eight days. If we come through it well, then it will really help our season.

“We’ve been on a very good run and hopefully there is more to come.”
