MARTIN Sockett is hoping Bromsgrove Sporting’s massive 6-0 win over Studley will help to attract another bumper crowd for their New Year’s Day clash at the Victoria Ground.

The rampant Rouslers face mid-table Pilkington XXX on Thursday (3pm ko) in brilliant form.

A huge crowd of 501 watched Sporting rout their Midlands League Division One promotion rivals, with goals for Chris Conway (2), Reece Hewitt, Will Tibbetts and Sam Wills.

Now Sockett wants the army of supporters out in force.

He said: “The fans are phenomenal and they really spur us on.

“But we completely understand we have to go out there and entertain the supporters and gee them up.

“It was a very good performance against Studley and to beat one of the sides around us by so much was very pleasing.”

Sporting’s home form is impressive with 23 goals scored without reply in the last three games.

While there are one or two niggles, Sporting are otherwise in good shape for their last big game.

Victory last Friday means they have risen to third in the table with two games in hand over rivals Highgate United and Bolehall Swifts.

Sockett added: “If someone had said we’d end 2014 in such good form and go into 2015 in third-place we would definitely have taken it.”

Meanwhile in Division Two, Droitwich Spa earned local bragging rights with a 3-1 win over local rivals Fairfield Villa. Victory moves Spa to third from bottom.

Macauley Finch fired Spa ahead before Connor Collins’ superb 30 yard strike made it 1-1 but goals for another new addition James Lemon and Steve Pitt sealed the points for Spa.

RUGBY: Bromsgrove return to action in the National Three Midlands when they entertain lower half of the table Sutton Coldfield on Saturday (1.15pm ko).

Dan Protherough’s troops have won the last four games in the league which ensures they go into 2015 on a high.
