BROMSGROVE coach Dan Protherough is not contemplating his side’s promotion prospects after they stretched their winning run to six games.

Saturday’s 33-7 victory over second-from-bottom Burton means the Finstall Park outfit are joint third in the National Three Midlands league and just two points off second.

Finishing runners-up would seal a play-off clash against the side from National Three North.

Protherough is not getting carried away, though, but keeping focused on Saturday’s trip to bottom-of-the-table Dudley Kingswinford.

While Bromsgrove have recovered well from last season’s relegation, their Midlands rivals are in free fall with just one win in the league and seven straight defeats.

Protherough said: “Dudley won’t be easy, they are struggling but have good players like Pete Knight to call on.

“We’ll certainly have to play well if we are to win.

“The league has been strange, we kept winning games and not really moving but all of a sudden we close right in.

“But we have a lot of hard games to come yet.”

Bromsgrove produced an impressive second half to sink Burton, with Chris Morgan and Dave Lewis bagging two tries each.

“Even with the scores level at half-time I was not worried because we had the wind behind us after the break,” added Protherough.

“Burton are in a bad position but I felt there are definitely worse sides in the league.”
