DAN Protherough believes Bromsgrove must learn their lessons after Hinckley ended their seven-game winning streak in the National Three Midlands.

The Boars suffered their first reverse since November 1 when Leicestershire’s powerful pack dominated the game.

Defeat saw Bromsgrove slip from second in the table to fourth.

But Protherough felt his side paid the price for not taking their chances when in charge of the game.

He said: “Hinckley had a very big and strong forward pack which put pressure on us at the scrums.

“But I felt we should have been more clinical in the first half when we had the wind at our backs and we were playing down the slope.

“We had chances in the first minute and the tenth and it would have been a different game if we had taken those chances.

“We had been on a good run but this is a defeat we can learn from to make us stronger.”

The Boars had been leading 6-0 at one stage after Jon Critchlow put away two penalties.

But Hinckley’s extra power proved to be the difference as they battled back with a penalty try to hand them the advantage at the end of the first half.

Bromsgrove will be hoping to bounce back at mid-table Lichfield on Saturday.

The Staffordshire-based side have hit some form in recent weeks, in particular with a promising display in a 38-29 defeat to leaders South Leicester.

Lichfield then got the better of Bournville 36-11, prompting Protherough to warn his players of their threat.

He added: “Lichfield will be a very different sort of challenge for us compared to Hinckley.

“They are some extremely quick backs who will try to stretch us.

“They managed to get the win at Finstall Park earlier in the season, they may be mid-table but they are a dangerous side.”
